Automatic Creation of Temp files in C:\Windows\Temp in Exchange Server
Hi All, I am running Exchange 2007 SP1 with Windows 2003 EE. Suddenly In our exchange server there are thousands of temp files created in C:\Windows\Temp folder named as ifs*.tmp. I am unable to delete those files nor copy/move to some other location. Somehow I opened the temp files in notepad and it was containing the mail body of mails including the mail headers. (one temp file for one mail). Due to this we have only few gigs of free disk space available. Kindly suggest what could be the reason for this behaviour. Regards Supreet Singh

Hiya, Do you have any other software installed, such as backup agents or Anti virus? Have you made any recent changes to the server? Is there any particular reason the server isn't patched up to SP3 UR1, and are Windows Updates regulary applied in spite of this? First point of call to find out what process has those .tmp files open would be one of the sysinternals tools, such as Process Explorer . Hi Supreet, Any updates on your issue? Suggest you install the latest service pack and rollup to avoid some known issues first. If this is a Mailbox server, temp files can be created and deleted by store.exe automatically, there can be situation where these files are not deleting and are consuming disk space and one of the reason would be anti virus and backup. Please make sure the temp directory is excluded from scanning. Dear ALL, The issue was with AV only, after we upgraded the AV client, it never created again. For Temp file deletion we restarted the server in normal mode and deleted the files. Many Thanks for all your help & suggestions. Regards Supreet Singh
